Recent announcements from the federal government indicate that Australians entering aged care after July 2014 will now be part of the new $3.7 billion user-pays system. Importantly one of the key factors in this new system is an increased emphasis on delaying permanent residential care by providing greater support for people to stay in their homes, something that we at Heather Hill Pathways are deeply passionate about.

A recent Australian Institute of Health and Welfare Bulletin aptly entitled, 'Pathways in aged care: do people follow recommendations?', has revealed some not all too surprising statistics on the services people utilise after having an ACAT (Aged Care Assessment Team) assessment completed. The message is clear, using community and residential respite care will delay your loved ones' entry into permanent aged care.
